Here’s a poem, with rhymes and even a couple of Scots words, based on Robert Burns’s “Auld Lang Syne” (could even be sung to the melody)…
We met amidst our happy times and keep them in our hearts; We clutch our half-forgotten scripts and try to play our parts. We smile, cajole, and reminisce, avoid all subjects raw, But eyes stay sober, keeping watch for hint of rusted claw. Far richer spirits we hae now, wi joys and woes that burn; Yet daily strivings, treasured thoughts, we spare no time to learn. Our minds have lived apart so long we dare not stir the stew. But think what life could offer if we'd only share the view.
